Richard Allen Vassari, 77, of Fort Pierce, Florida, formerly of Peekskill, New York, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2019 at the VNA Hospice in Vero Beach, Florida after a brief illness. He was born May 8, 1941 to Walter L. Sr. & Alice Adams Vassari in Yonkers, New York. Richard was raised in Yonkers and attended Sacred Heart and Gorton High schools. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army where he proudly served in the medical unit being stationed in Arizona. After serving his country, he returned to Yonkers where he was employed by the Yonkers Raceway. He later worked for various businesses in the Yonkers area, including the family business, Wally’s Florist. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 1163, Yonkers, NY. Rich was an avid sports fan and participant. He was a loyal supporter of the NY Yankees, NY Giants, & the NY Rangers. He enjoyed golfing throughout the years, and bowling for many years. It was at the Homefield Bowling Lanes that he met the love of his life, Larissa Goodwin. They were married on December 31, 1969 and made their home in Peekskill, New York. Together they enjoyed many of life’s pleasures and adventures until her passing on September 25, 2005. In 2010, Richard moved to Fort Pierce, Florida where he continued to play golf, and make many new friends smile and laugh. Rich was always the life of the party. He especially enjoyed golf outings with “the cousins” and family picnics and get-togethers. He is survived by his two sisters & brother-in-laws, Alice (Anthony) Salvi and Patti (Jerry) Navin, and sister-in-law, Carla Vassari. Besides his wife Larissa, he was predeceased by his brother, Walter L. Vassari Jr. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he dearly loved.
