   My dad was well-loved by many. He lived a long life, full of challenges, triumphs, and tragedies. He had a great impact on many people’s lives over the years, and love him or hate him, he was in many ways, larger than life. He will be greatly missed. Sleep in peace, PJ!

   A life well lived in the service of God. PJ, you have done well on earth and now you rest with your Heavenly Father in sweet peace. I remember the time I lived with you and Mom, you teaching me to drive in that Volkswagen bus. You were such a joy. Rest well PJ. You were indeed precious Joseph. Always in my ❤️.

   In Memoriam
   Joseph Benjamin Johnson was one of seven children born to Peter and Estella Johnson in St. D’Acre in the parish of St. Ann, in Jamaica, West Indies. Born on Sunday, April 10, 1927, Joseph passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home in the Bronx, New York. Joseph led a varied and rewarding life, filled with many challenges, heartaches, and joys. Born and raised in a Christian home by his devout and God-fearing parents, Joseph’s great love for the Lord made it imperative that he follow in his father’s footsteps by entering the ministry after having worked in various jobs upon leaving home.
   Before being called to missionary work in Barbados, Joseph, who had been previously ordained first as an evangelist, then as a pastor and apostle in the Apostolic Church of Jamaica, worked alongside his fellow ministers in two churches in Kingston, becoming the pastor of Peniel Tabernacle in Olympic Gardens before being sent to work full time overseeing the denomination’s work in two growing assemblies in St. Ann’s Bay and Claremont in his home parish of St. Ann. After two years serving in those churches, he was sent to continue and grow the work of the Apostolic Church in Barbados from 1968 through 1974.
   Upon his return to Jamaica, Joseph, also known as PJ, pastored the then fledgling congregation in Knockpatrick in Manchester, and then returned to Kingston where he worked until he migrated to the United States in 1983. His passion for the ministry saw him offering his service and support to many pastors to help them grow their congregations while he searched for the place he would call his home church. After decades of pastoral service in a number of assemblies both in the Caribbean and in the States, including eight years spent working with his son-in-law Hugh Bonnick at Kedesh Christian Sanctuary in the Bronx, Joseph finally settled at Calvary Temple Evangelical Church of Christ in Mount Vernon, New York, where he eventually retired from active service.
   Joseph raised five children with his beloved wife Phoebe who went on before him in November 2019. He loved math, he loved to read, and he loved music. He loved to study and to expound the Word, and enjoyed reading the expositions and sermons of those whom he respected as Bible scholars. He was a good singer, able to hold a tune as well as harmonize in all the hymns he loved to sing. Till the end of his days, even when his illness most weakened him, he joyously joined in when his visitors sang the old hymns with him.
   Joseph is survived by his and Phoebe’s five children — Lloyd, Blondell, Janet, Karen, and Courtney — by nineteen nieces and nephews, seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
   We are thankful for the life of our dearly departed father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Sleep in peace, PJ!
