Raymond R. D’Alessandro
April 8, 1930 – September 26, 2020

Raymond R. D’Alessandro, of Carmel NY died peacefully on September 26, 2020. He was 90 years old. Raymond retired from his business Del Commercial Spray, a painting and refinishing company of fine furniture.
Raymond was born to the late Michael and Adolphine D'Alessandro in the Bronx of New York. He was predeceased by daughter Dawn D’Alessandro of Mahopac, his brother Herbert of Bronxville, his sister Gloria of Mahopac, and first wife Margaret T. Cresswell Mintern.
He was the loving father of Michael T. D'Alessandro (Jill), Nancy D. D'Alessandro and Richard R. D'Alessandro (Anne), and 4 grandchildren: Christine, Briana, Kathryn and Sean.
He is survived by his spouse Teresa D’Alessandro. He was the loving father of Latrice Hammond (Edward), Adele Kannenburg (Roy), Teresa D’Alessandro, and stepson Donald Kizer. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren: Edward Jr., Tara Rose, Dakota, Jamie, Juliette, Lauren, Stephanie, Crystal and Tristian.

The 90-year-old Putnam County resident who grew up in the Bronx and enlisted in the military at the age of 11 in 1942, was recognized along with his late brother, Herbert D’Alessandro, and awarded with The Congressional Gold Medal of Honor, the highest civilian honor our country bestows. The D’Alessandro brothers always had a keen interest in flying and airplanes. They joined the Civil Air Patrol in 1944 becoming cadet members. Raymond told the audience that the Civil Air Patrol trained him to be a pilot. “I trained on single engine aircraft with dual controls out of Floyd Bennett Field. Many of the planes flown were donated by individuals who couldn’t fly them at the time due to the high cost of fuel.” Over 200,000 men, women and teenagers from all walks of life participated in the Civil Air Patrol during the war years from March 1942 to August 1943, flying 24 million miles over the Atlantic and Gulf coasts in order to ward off German U-boat attacks against the United States. Raymond re-enlisted with the Army in 1948, then proceeded into combat in Korea in 1951. Upon his discharge he attended college and became a police officer in White Plains. He also served in Westchester, where he assisted and aided Veterans through the United Action Council for Veterans and Service Members. Raymond was a proud Veteran. Raymond will be buried with Full Military Honors.
Despite all of Raymond’s accomplishments, he was a loving man to all of his family and friends. During his retired years he enjoyed spending time with his family, country music, old western movies and trips to Atlantic City. He especially loved celebrating Holidays and occasions with his family and loved ones.
