Richard J. Stromberg, son of Jaye Stromberg and Ann Nass Stromberg, passed away in Westchester, N.Y., on March 17, 2021 at the age of 78. Born and raised in Queens, N.Y., he was known for his endless optimism and strength through adversity, even in recent years while coping with increasing health challenges. Richard worked every day until his passing. His business, the manufacturing of umbrellas, was one of his passions. As a young man, he took over management of Raindeer Umbrellas, founded by his father in 1942, with a factory in New York City. Richard traveled through Europe and Asia, becoming an expert in production, which served his vision to expand the business into the Promotional Products Industry. He grew the company -- now called StrombergBrand Umbrellas -- together with his wife, Helen, to become the successful, award-winning one it is today.
Richard is survived by his wife; his daughters, Deborah, Marla, Jan and Jennifer; his grandchildren, Olivia, Aaron, Adam, Jonah, and Tara; and countless friends. He loved reading, art, jazz music, billiards, nature, gardening and landscaping at his country home, astronomy, etymology, traveling to warm places, and murder mysteries. He will be greatly missed. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in his memory.
